BEHOLDING THE BEAUTY OF THE LORD

BEHOLDING THE BEAUTY OF THE LORD

“One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the BEAUTY OF THE LORD, and to enquire in His temple.” [Psalm 27:4]

“Spiritual exercises are irksome to the flesh. But the real Christian says, “It is good for me to draw near to God” (Ps. 73:28). The carnal man has many cravings and ambitions; the regenerate soul declares, “One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord” (Ps. 27:4). And why? Because the true sentiment of his heart is, “Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee” (Ps. 73:25). Ah, my reader, if your heart has not been drawn out to love and delight in God, then it is still dead toward Him.” – A.W. Pink

“Take altogether – to behold the beauty of the Lord and to enquire in his temple. And now tell me, if there be, if there can be, any greater request to be made? any greater cause to be earnest about it? For though worldly beauty be a fading thing, yet “the beauty of the Lord,” shall continue when the world shall fade away; and though enquiring after news be a vain fancy, yet to enquire in God’s Temple is the way to learn that there is no new thing under the sun, and there it was that Solomon learned that “all is vanity.” Indeed, this “one thing, ” that David desires, is in effect that unum necessarium that Christ speaks of in the gospel; which Mary makes choice of there, as David doth here. – Sir Richard Baker
