ANIMALS AND BIRDS CAN TEACH US A THING OR TWO . . . . GOD SAID SO . . . .

Michael Jeshurun

Ain’t no such thing as a ‘dumb animal’. In fact God chides us humans saying that there are a few things that WE can learn from THEM. Consider these . . . .

“But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee . . .” [Job 12:7]

“The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands.” Or as another translation has it – “Locusts have no king, yet all of them go out in rank” [Prov 30:27]

“The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master’s crib: but Israel doth not know, My people doth not consider.” [Isaiah 1:3]

“Yea, the stork in the heaven knoweth her appointed times; and the turtle and the crane and the swallow observe the time of their coming; but My people know not the judgment of the LORD.” [Jer 8:7]

“He maketh my feet like hinds’ feet (deer’s feet), and setteth me upon my high places.” [Psalm 18:33] Why ‘hind’s feet’? What’s so special about the hind or the deer’s feet? This – it is beautiful, graceful and sure footed . . . qualities that are worth praying for. In spiritual sense when we dwell in God and His Word we too can have a firm foundation of God in our lives. Our spiritual feet become like the feet of a deer; confident and able to gracefully walk through the obstacles of life.

“The young lions roar after their prey, and seek their meat from God.” [Psalm 104:21]

“Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man’s voice forbad the madness of the prophet.” [2Pet 2:15,16]

“Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.” [Prov 6:6-8]

Finally our Lord specifically tells us to be “wise as serpents and harmless as doves” [Matt 10:16]

A careful reading of the scripture will show that that there are many more such examples . . . If YOU can think of any, or can remember an incident where your pet acted a little smarter than you, please feel free to add them in the comments . . .
